Reporting a bug? It helps a lot if you include your iOS version, the app version (Settings → About), which language you were learning and what you were doing when it went wrong.
Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. Wordie creates an anonymous account for you on first launch so your progress can sync — there is no sign-up form, email or password.
Does it work offline?
Mostly. Once you have downloaded a dictionary pack and a book, reading and looking up words work with no connection. Anything that needs the server — new stories, exam evaluation, multiplayer — waits until you are back online, and results you finished offline sync automatically.
The app says "No dictionaries available".
That usually means the dictionary pack for your language has not finished downloading. Open Settings → Dictionaries, check that the pack shows as installed, and try downloading it again on Wi-Fi. If it keeps failing, email us with the language you picked.
How do I change the language I'm learning?
Settings → Learning language. Your saved words, flashcards and progress are kept separately per language, so switching back later picks up where you left off.
How do book clubs work?
A book club is a small private room — up to eight people — created around a book in the library. Whoever creates it shares an invite with the people they want to read alongside. Only members of the room see the room's activity.
How is my writing and speaking scored?
Exam writing tasks are evaluated by an AI model against the criteria for that exam and level. Speaking tasks are transcribed on your device and the transcript is scored the same way — the audio never leaves your phone. Evaluation is asynchronous: you'll get a notification when your result is ready, usually within a few minutes.
Can I turn off notifications?
Yes — per category in the app's notification settings, or entirely in iOS Settings → Notifications → Wordie.
How do I delete my data?
Deleting the app removes everything stored on your device. To have the server-side data deleted as well, email support@wordie.net with the account identifier from the app's settings screen — accounts are anonymous, so that identifier is how we find the right data. See the privacy policy for what is stored.
Where does the reading content come from?
Books are public-domain works, and the dictionaries are built from openly licensed data. Stories, grammar lessons and exam tasks are written for the app.
