The short version. Wordie does not ask for your name, email address or phone number. It does not show ads, and it does not sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers. What it stores is what it needs to remember your progress and keep the service running.
Who we are
Wordie is an iOS language-learning app. This policy covers the app and the website at wordie.net. Questions go to support@wordie.net.
What we collect
Account and device identifiers
When you first open Wordie, the app creates an anonymous account tied to a randomly generated device identifier. There is no name, email or password involved. If you choose a display name or emoji avatar — for example to appear in a book club or a duel — that is stored too and is visible to the other people in that room.
Learning data
Your progress is stored so the app can pick up where you left off: which stories and books you have read, saved words and flashcards, lesson and exam results, wrong answers collected in the mistake notebook, and study streaks.
Written and spoken practice
Texts you write for exam tasks are sent to our servers to be evaluated and scored. For spoken tasks, the recording is transcribed on your device — the audio itself is not uploaded. The resulting transcript is sent for evaluation, and speaking-practice transcripts are deleted automatically by a nightly cleanup job.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Apple gives the app a push token that we store so we can deliver duel invitations, book club activity and daily reminders. You can turn notifications off in iOS Settings at any time.
Technical logs
Our servers keep short-lived request logs (timestamp, endpoint, status code, IP address) to debug errors and to detect abuse. Authentication tokens are redacted from logs, and request bodies are only recorded when debug logging is temporarily switched on for troubleshooting.
What we do not collect
- No advertising identifiers and no third-party ad or analytics SDKs.
- No contacts, photos, precise location or health data.
- No profile photo uploads — avatars are picked from a fixed emoji set.
- No audio recordings leave your device.

Where it is processed
Wordie runs on Cloudflare's global network — Workers for the API, D1 for the database, KV and R2 for dictionary and book files. Cloudflare acts as our processor and may serve requests from data centres worldwide, including outside your country of residence. Written and spoken tasks are evaluated by AI models running on Cloudflare's infrastructure; the content of your submissions is not used to train anyone's models. Push notifications are delivered through Apple's APNs service. Dictionary and book content is public-domain or openly licensed material we host ourselves.
How long we keep it
- Learning data — until you delete it or ask us to delete your account.
- Speaking-practice transcripts — removed automatically by a nightly cleanup.
- Technical logs — between 14 and 60 days depending on severity, then deleted.
Your choices
- Notifications — turn off per-category in the app, or entirely in iOS Settings.
- Multiplayer — book clubs and duels are opt-in; your display name is only visible in rooms you join.
- Access, correction or deletion — email support@wordie.net and we will handle it. Because accounts are anonymous, we may need the account identifier shown in the app's settings screen to find the right data.
- Deleting the app — removes everything stored locally, including downloaded dictionary packs and books.
Children
Wordie is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used the app and you want the data removed, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or why, we will update the date at the top of this page and note the change in the app's release notes.
